PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CROWN RECORDS MANAGEMENT, UK, INTRODUCES ECO-FRIENDLY FLEET IN LONDON Environmental Protection is High on Crown's List of Responsibilities LONDON, July 1, 2008—Crown Records Management, the world’s number one private business information storage company, has taken delivery of its first ever electric vehicle as part of its contribution to a cleaner, greener environment, and reducing its carbon footprint. The vehicle is based at its Bow facility, servicing the city of London. Crown RMS, UK, began investigating the use of electric vehicles a few years ago and tested various models, but now working with Direct Asset Management Ltd, a leading specialist in commercial vehicle supply, have found a practical solution. This new design has a standard Ford transit chassis, but has been adapted mechanically to use battery power only. The vehicle's range is 80 to 100 miles between charges and it has only four moving parts which makes it easier to maintain, highly reliable and ideally suited for low mileage, inner city operations. With the current spiraling cost of fossil fuels, the vehicle offers a bonus. The electric van has zero carbon emissions, noise and exhaust pollution, and all its components can be recycled. Andy Middleton, director of infrastructure, UK & Ireland, said, “We are delighted to be able to introduce an electric vehicle to our fleet. The impact this vehicle will have on our operating costs as well as our contribution towards a better environment is immediate. We will expand the use of these vehicles if reliability, emissions and overall running costs prove favorable versus our predominantly diesel powered fleet.” Crown also plans to utilize more fuel-efficient motorcycles as opposed to vans for small-volume deliveries, and to offer scan-on-demand, electronic delivery of documents as an alternative to hard copy deliveries. Frank Hopping, managing director Crown RMS, UK & Ireland, said, “We are acutely aware of the importance of minimizing our environmental impact and this is an exciting new development in our ongoing efforts. The electric vehicle is the most environmentally friendly vehicle on the market and we hope to introduce many more onto our fleet.” For more information visit smithelectricvehicles.com/whyelectric.asp Crown Records Management Crown Records Management (crownrms.com) serves large and small corporations around the world.
