Protecting Individuals’ Identifiable Information

Data privacy is of real concern for just about every industry and organization within them. Crown shares that concern and actively participates in securing and monitoring its clients’ personally identifiable information; and has long been a subscriber to the Safe Harbor provision of the Data Privacy Act.

Data Privacy Protection

This Data Protection Act and the European Data Protection Directive says, its members "shall protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of natural persons, and in particular their right to privacy with respect to the processing of personal data." It applies to all European countries and is immediately enforceable in those countries. The United States, having no data privacy laws of its own, adheres to the European rules.

As a company that subscribe to Safe Harbor, and one that has offices in several foreign countries, Crown is bound by the rules and so are all its offices worldwide. Violation of the act subjects the company and the employee(s) to stiff penalties either by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the European Union (EU), or some other data privacy-monitoring organization.

The staff members of the Crown Worldwide Group (and its subsidiaries) often receive and are sometimes required to collect personal information from client. The information is handled and managed confidentially according to the customers’ request, and in accordance with the rules specified by Safe Harbor.

Crown’s management representatives are responsible for creating the data-privacy procedures that their employees follow and for making that information available to every employee. In addition they must identify an individual responsible for handling all data privacy issues, ensure that personal data is inaccessible to visitors and anyone without a need to know, that contracts for service include standard data-privacy language and that personal information is used within reasonable the expectation of the individuals concerned. Employees are responsible for adhering to the procedures established by management, not disclosing confidential information to third parties and immediately reporting a breach or potential breach of the rules to management.

Crown has been a member of Safe Harbor since November, 2004 and its active status can be verified on the Department of Commerce website.
