Shanghai celebrates Earth Day

In 1970, millions of people celebrated the first Earth Day. It was a time when cities were buried under their own smog and polluted rivers caught fire. Now Earth Day is celebrated annually around the globe. What started as a day of national environmental recognition has evolved into a worldwide campaign to protect the environment.
On April 19, 2008, Crown Shanghai was given the opportunity to participate in Earth Day activities, at an event organized by the Shanghai Zoo, Rainbow Bridge International School and the Changning District’s Science and Technology Bureau.
About 15 booths were set up to represent NGOs such as Roots and Shoots, SCAA (Shanghai Pet Adoption Agency), as well as ethnic “villages” representing China, Korea, USA, Japan, India and Nordic countries.
Children introduced projects for recycling paper, plastic, glass and cardboard. Crown Shanghai created a cardboard castle from used boxes and showed that recycled materials can be used in a fun way. The Crown Cardboard Castle and Bouncy Castle were two of the most popular attractions at the event!
