"MAD" Awards in the UK

Crown Records Management in the UK is celebrating their position as one of only six companies to reach the finals of the "Make A Difference (MAD)" awards, sponsored by Legal & General.
The annual awards, which are supported by Business in the Community and The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, reward suppliers who have made significant contributions to the environment, their communities and their employees. Crown was recognized for its effort in cutting carbon emissions during 2009. That undertaking included the use of electric delivery vans, producing zero emissions and launching "Lights-out Fridays" to slash electricity consumption across its sites by an estimated 27.5 tons of carbon per year.
These initiatives are part of Crown Records Management's wider Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, which also encompasses the use of fuel-efficient motorcycles for small-volume deliveries and the introduction of electronic invoices and web-based transactions to reduce paper consumption. The company has also switched to packing materials which are made from at least 80 percent recycled content and has offset its remaining emissions by planting 2,250 trees.
Frank Hopping, managing director for Crown Records Management, UK & Ireland, said, "I am delighted that our carbon-reduction initiatives have been recognised. We are acutely aware of the importance of minimizing our environmental footprint and have worked to ensure that this becomes integral to all our operations. Our employees have shown true commitment to cutting emissions so it's fantastic to see their efforts being rewarded in this way. We have been building on this success throughout 2010, by adding more electric vehicles to our fleet and new environmental features to our offices and warehouses."
Crown has worked with Legal & General for many years and was appointed its preferred UK supplier in 2008, following a rigorous procurement process.
