Cornwall Businesses Advised To Store Data Securely
At an event in Truro, specialist document management firm Crown Records Management Ltd has advised businesses to review the way they store data, following a spate of high-profile data losses in recent months.
Organised by the South West branch of the Records Management Society, organisations from across the region attended the event at the Brookdale Hotel to discuss the storage of data.

Crown business development managers, Jeff Chapman and Neil Webley, discussed outsourcing storage of information, covering expected response times for retrieving records and the level of advice to expect from an external consultant. Other speakers at the event included Robert Hogarth of Cornwall County Council on implementation of a records management system and Michele Noad of Wiltshire County Council on how to encourage user buy-in in a time of change.
Chris Tinsley, Secretary of the South West Records Management Society, commented, “Secure storage is a topical issue for a broad range of organisations at the moment, so we’re encouraging records managers to review the way they store data to ensure it is safe as well as easy to access. As a society we’re aiming to reach records managers throughout the region, so this event in Truro was an important step in the process.
Jeff Chapman of Crown Records Management added, “The most effective way for many organisations to store important information is to hand the responsibility to a dedicated specialist. Whether electronic or hard copy, such a firm will ensure that data is kept off site securely, but still easily accessible. The benefit to the organisation is not only peace of mind but also a reduced need for extensive floor space. Given the low cost of storing information off-site, the business case for reducing office space seems clear, particularly in the current economic climate.”
