Unfortunately, criminals are waiting for those moments to use phishing tactics to steal money or identity.

Here’s 10 simple tips to help you stay protected:

  1. Be cautious of unexpected deals from sellers you have never dealt with – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
  2. Surveys offering a gift or money on completion can sometimes be a ploy to gain personal details.
  3. Never open emails from an unknown sender.
  4. Delete emails that use inaccurate grammar. 
  5. Ensure order confirmations are actually from the seller and not a fake email address.
  6. Delete fake shipping notifications.
  7. Rather than clicking on links included in emails, retype them into a new browser.
  8. Always use anti-virus software.
  9. Never give your bank details out to anyone, even if you’re talking to a bank representative.
  10. Only download apps from a reputable app store.
